You know, despite how basic it is to know who ACD is when you are in a Sherlock Holmes fandom i still think it is rude and down right elitist to tell other people that they can’t be or aren’t fans of something because then don’t know/do something that you think they should. Everyone has varying degrees of obsession with and has spent different amounts of time in a fandom and these things affect how much you know and have done in that fandom. Other people shouldn’t determine what makes you a fan, we all experience it in different ways. That’s the fun of it. But if we are spending our time berating others and being rude then it’s no fun at all. 

the actual rudeness here is not knowing who created Sherlock Holmes. it’s rude to Sir Doyle. it’s not about obsession, we know because we care (about general knowledge) not because we’re obsessed or in a fandom. I’ve known his name since I can remember, it has nothing to do with obsession or being in a ‘fandom’. even if you didn’t know before you started watching show, at least learn after that.
